What is Ethical and Sustainable Fahsion?

Well, I'm sure some of you are wondering, what in the sweet cantaloupe gods is 'sustainable' or 'ethical' fashion?

I truly had no idea until about 2 years ago, when I started being a little more proactive in my quest of knowledge regarding these things.

Sustainable Fashion is having an interest in creating and investing in items that are not detrimental to our planet and can last many years, if not a lifetime.

So investing in Sustainable Fashion, what would that look like?

Investing in natural products such as linen or organic cotton items which alleviate harm on our environment, hosting a clothing swap, or by investing in vintage, pre-owned items. All of these options can significantly free up resources to avoid further environmental strain.

Now... Ethical Fasion-well what is that?

Ethical Fashion is based on the moral guideline of consuming and supporting garment workers both financially and in their daily lives as well. More times than not (although things are evolving), garment workers are treated without any care.
These workers are treated as numbers; as if they don't have their own family members to worry about, as if they have no need to be in good health, to have safe working environments or even have their own personal lives.
These garment workers are paid incredibly low wages and their natural resources are also polluted in the process of creating our garments.
In striving to buy ethical products, you're supporting the person behind your item; you're supporting their living wage and better health conditions, and you're supporting their morality.

So by focusing on ethical fashion, what would that look like?

Investing in items where a fair wage is provided, investing in a company that supports their workers with a reasonable, healthy work environment or even investing in an item or company that makes sure that the harmful manufacturing waste isn't placed back into our ecosystem.

With this valuable information, you can do with it as you will, but if you can, make a point to invest in the items that do our planet and it's people justice.

Yours,

Delaney
