Raw Denim, What is all of the hype for?

What in the Sam Hill is Raw Denim you may ask?

Raw Denim is denim that is sold in it's original, unprocessed state. After Raw Denim is taken off of the loom, it is then cut and sewn, and is able to bypass the incredibly wasteful water and/or acid washing and distressing process that traditional denim goes through  before it is sent to the market to be sold.
Raw Denim is an awesome alternative to typical denim options that are found on high-street because of the alleviated environmental impact. In the process of being a part of the raw denim movement, you're saving the planet! Just kidding, but the process that goes into creating Raw Denim compared to mass produced denim products is quite astounding.

◡Just to get an idea of the environmental toll of mass-produced denim products;
Typical denim goes through a very lengthy process before hitting the market. Prior to being cut and sewn, traditional denim goes through an intense chemical induced process, and after being sewn, it is then washed with up to 42 liters of drinking water and large amounts of additional dyes and acids to achieve those "sick fades"(as my boyfriend Jared would say).
If you find Raw Denim is too expensive for you, no problem!
There are plenty of alternative eco-denim options out there! I would absolutely consider looking in your own closet and bringing any denim items you have to a tailor for an upcycle, or even shop second-hand to alleviate the impact of purchasing first-hand denim. If these options don't work for you; two places I would consider in purchasing brand-new denim are from the ASOS Eco Edit Collection or the Levi's Water > less Collection.
